After six consecutive losses in One Day Internationals, India finally managed to break the jinx and registered their first victory on Australian tour by beating the hosts by 13 runs in third and final ODI of the series at Canberra. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India put up a total of 302 for the loss of five wickets. Hardik Pandya was top scorer for the Indian side and scored 92 runs. Captain Virat Kohli scored 63 runs, while Jadeja contributed 66 runs with the bat. Kohli also became the fastest batsman to reach 12, 000 runs breaking Tendulkar’s record.
Chasing the target of 303 runs, Australia fell short by 13 runs. Kangaroos were all out for 389 runs in 49.3 overs. Thakur took three wickets for India, while Bumrah sent two Australian batsmen back to the Pavilion. Finch was top scorer for the Aussie side and scored 75 runs. Despite the loss, the Australians have managed to win the series by 2-1. the Kangaroos had defeated Men in Blue in previous two matches of the series by 66 runs and 51 runs, respectively at Sydney cricket Ground taking an unassailable lead by 2-0 in the three-match series.
During the presentation ceremony, Indian captain Virat Kohli credited the bowlers for the first victory on Australian tour. He said the pitch offered great support to bowlers today unlike previous matches. He added that the team would like to carry forward the momentum in upcoming T20 and Test series as well.
Aussie captain Aaron Finch also lauded the fight put up by his team in the match and said the target of 303 was too big to chase on this ground, but the team inched pretty closer to it. Steve Smith, who scored tons in last two matches was adjudged Man of the Series.
Team India will now be playing a T20 series against the Kangaroos. The first match will be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra on December 4.
