Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (24) became the youngest player in IPL history to win Orange cap after smashing 635 runs in IPL 2021. Gaikwad surpassed KL Rahul’s 626 runs to claim Orange cap form PBKS captain. Gaikwad smashed 32 runs against KKR in IPL 2021 final to achieve this record. Second on the list is Gaikwad’s opening partner du Plessis, with 633, followed by Shikhar Dhawan of Delhi Capitals with 587 runs.
On the other hand, Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore has won the Purple cap in IPL 2021. With 32 wickets in 15 matches his name in IPL 2021. Harshal Patel also created the record of taking most wickets in a single season of IPL, other than Harshal, Dwayne Bravo of CSK had also taken 32 wickets in different IPL season.
After being sent to bat first Chennai Super Kings smashed KKR bowlers all over the park and scored 192 runs in 20 overs. The opening pair of Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis, once again started well for CSK, Du Plessis went on to score 86 runs in 59 balls, though he missed the orange cap by just 2 runs. With cameo form Moeen Ali and Robin Uthappa, CSK controlled the entire match right form the start and put the target of 193 for Morgan-led KKR.
This is not the first time, these two sides are playing each-other in final, earlier in 2012, KKR had defeated CSK to win their first ever IPL title. If KKR manages to win the IPL 2021 final, they will tie with CSK with number of IPL titles. Mumbai Indians (5) still tops the list of teams with most number of IPL titles. With 3 titles on their name, if CSK manages to defeat KKR, then they will close the gap with their arc-rivals Mumbai Indians, as they will have 4 trophies on their name.
