N Srinivasan says MS Dhoni will be retained by CSK in 2021

Former BCCI president N Srinivasan has said that MS Dhoni will be retained by the Chennai Super Kings in 2021 IPL auctions.

Srinivasan, who is the Managing Director of India Cements (owners of Chennai Super Kings), said that there is no doubt that Dhoni will play for CSK in the next two years.

“People keep saying when will he… how long will he play etc. He will play. I can assure you. He will play this year. Next year he will go to the auction and will be retained… There is no doubt in anybody’s mind,” Srinivasan said, while speaking at an entrepreneurship event in Chennai.

Speculations about Dhoni’s retirement from cricket have been doing the rounds after the former Indian captain was excluded from BCCI’s central contract recently. Dhoni hasn’t played an international game since India’s World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand in July last year.

Srinivasan’s statement might come as a solace for Dhoni fans who would be eager to see their favourite player back in action.

However, Dhoni’s exclusion from the list of centrally contracted players came as no surprise. The BCCI had earlier hinted that they would want to give more chances to young players like Rishabh Pant after the 2019 World Cup.

Dhoni is one of India’s most successful captains, with three ICC trophies (2007 WT20, 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy) to his name. He has scored over 17,000 international runs and effected 829 dismissals from 538 international matches. (90 tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20Is).
