The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested PDP youth wing President Waheed Parra for his alleged links with Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Naveed Babu.
A senior NIA officer told a TV news channel that the close aide of Mehbooba Mufti has been charged with supporting terror activities of Hizbul and also for his alleged involvement with in the case of arrest of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Naveed Babu.
Parra had recently filed his nomination for the District Development Council (DDC) elections from Pulwama in South Kashmir- first phase of which will be held on November 28. He was being questioned at the NIA headquarters since Monday and got arrested on Wednesday, the officer said. During his questioning, the NIA officials were able to establish his complicity with Naveed Babu. He would be produced in Delhi for transit remand, and then taken to Jammu, he added.
Parra was instrumental in the revival of the PDP in south Kashmir, especially in militancy-infested Pulwama. His name surfaced during the probe into the case of suspended DSP Davinder Singh who was arrested earlier this year while ferrying two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway.
Today, the NIA arrested Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, the youth wing leader of People’s Democratic Party, in connection with the Naveed Babu-Davinder Singh case for supporting Hizbul Mujahideen in conspiracy with the other accused persons, NIA spokesperson told NDTV.
Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti condemned the arrest of her close aide and shared a video of then Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Twitter applauding Parra for strengthening democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Waheed has no connection whatsoever with this man and is being falsely charged. All just to blackmail and intimidate PDP and other mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, she wrote.
She also tweeted that NIA has arrested Waheed days after he raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir administration serving eviction notices to nomads. He had been vocal in criticising the Centre after he was released from detention in February this year. Waheed had unfettered access to MHA when BJP-PDP were in alliance.
