PM Modi on Saturday attended the 15th edition of G20 summit hosted by Saudi Arabia via conferencing. During the summit, the prime minister told the world leaders that Covid-19 pandemic was a big turning point in the history of mankind and the biggest challenge since World War II. According to foreign ministry’s statement, the prime minister also called for a new global index based on transparency in governance. The prime minister also called for decisive action to preserve the planet.
Later, PM Modi took to Twitter and said he had a fruitful discussion with G20 leaders, which was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump. He said if the large economies make a coordinated effort, it will lead to faster recovery from the pandemic. He said transparency in our processes helps in inspiring our societies to fight crisis collectively and with confidence. Spirit of trusteeship towards planet Earth will inspire us for a healthy and holistic lifestyle.
The host of G20 summit , King Salman Bid Abdulziz talked about affordable and equitable access to anti-COVID-19 tools, including the vaccines. He said al the leaders needed to come together during the summit and rise to the challenge posed by the pandemic. He said the countries need ed to give a stronge message of hope and reassurance to their people by adopting policies that will help in mitigating the crisis.
He said in a bid to put global economy back on track, developing countries must be provided support in a coordinated manner to maintain the development achieved in past few years.
The G20 summit will continue on Sunday as well and will culminate with the adoption of the Leaders’ Declaration. The next summit will be held in Italy, while India will play host of G20 summit in 2022.
