Pulwama: Shashi Tharoor hits back at BJP, asks what should Congress apologise for

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday dismissed the BJP’s demand for an apology from Congress for questioning from the ruling party after Pulwama terror attack in February last year. Tharoor said he is still trying to figure out what the Congress is supposed to apologise for.

Tharoor wrote on twitter that he is still trying to figure out what the Congress is supposed to apologise for. For expecting the government to keep our soldiers safe? For rallying around the flag rather than politicising a national tragedy? For expressing condolences to the families of our martyrs? he said.

Pakistan Federal minister on Thursday admitted that the country was behind the Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. A day after his boast, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday demanded an apology from the Congress for its conspiracy theories and remarks about the incident. The terror attack took place on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on February 14, 2019, when a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora near Awantipura in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the first anniversary of the attack, Rahul Gandhi had held the BJP responsible for security lapses asking who benefited the most from the attack. He had tweeted three questions and sought to know the outcome of the inquiry into the terror attack. Tharoor had said it was an insult to the soldiers who had been killed.

In August, the National Investigation Agency named Pakistan based terrorist Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar and his brother Rauf Asghar as key conspirators behind the attack. The 13,500-page charge-sheet listed 19 other accused and details of the planning and execution of one of the deadliest terror attacks in Kashmir was done from Pakistan.

Earlier this morning, PM Modi hit out at opposition over its stand on Pulwama, saying the Pakistan minister’s revelations had exposed the real face of the opposition.
