BJP Delhi vice-president Shazia Ilmi has registered an FIR against former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Akbar Ahmad ‘Dumpy’ for allegedly misbehaving with her during a dinner engagement on February 5. The FIR has been registered in Vasant Kunj Police station under Indian Penal Code Sections 506 (threatening), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
Ilmi told The Indian Express that she doesn’t want to publicize this excessively and has filed a complaint against Ahmad for harassing and misbehaving with her. Chetan Seth, the host of the dinner, and his family members tried to stop Dumpy, but he was constantly humiliating her, she said. Ilmi said Dumpy was abusing in Hindi and that she wants to set an example of him so that people should not get away.
In her complaint, Shazia Ilmi said she had attended cigar baron Chetan Seth’s party in Vasant Kunj where ambassadors from several countries were present. She stated that while she was talking to the Chilean Ambassador, Akbar Ahmed Dumpy joined the conversation and started abusing the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite people asking him to stop, he continued to speak abuses, Ilmi said in her complaint.
She told police that she was crying when Ahmad humiliated her and foreign dignitaries too were shocked. The incident took place on February 5 and an FIR was lodged on February 7.
DCP (Southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said they have received a complaint and appropriate legal action is being taken. SHO (Vasant Kunj South) Ajay Negi has sent a letter to senior officers, requesting them to transfer the case to the Crime Branch.
Ahmad (72) has been a two-time MP from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat for the BSP — once in 1998 and once in 2009.
