Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu and singer Sona Mohapatra on Monday reacted strongly to the Supreme Court’s observations on a rape case. The Supreme court bench in the hearing asked a raped accused if he was willing to marry the victim.
Reacting to the newpiece on Twitter, Taapsee asked if the victim was ever asked if she wants to marry the man. The actor tweeted, did someone ask the girl this question? If she wants to marry her rapist? Is that a question!!!? This is the solution or a punishment? Plain simple Disgust!
While Sona found the Apex court’s observation sickening and disturbing. She tweeted, a rapist marrying his victim has been a gory and repulsive Bollywood solution in the past, how can a Supreme Court of #India falls to these levels?
During the hearing in the Apex Court on Monday, Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde asked a 23-year-old Maharashtra government servant, who was accused of raping a minor girl whether he would marry the victim.
The court, however, made it clear that it is not pressuring the accused to marry the minor victim. Since, the accused had promised that if the girl turns adult then he will marry her, but he did not in result of which a rape complaint was filed against him.
The court later granted the accused an interim protection from arrest for four weeks during which he can seek bail from the sessions court.
Fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar also commented on the news article. He wrote, I honestly cannot fathom this warped form of justice. Whatsoever and Who can possibly have any logic as to how this can be any sort of solution?, he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Taapsee is currently busy shooting for her upcoming film Dobaara directed by Anurag Kashyap. She will also be seen in mystery thriller Haseen Dilruba directed by Vinil Mathew. Her lined up projects include a thriller comedy titled Looop Lapeta and a sports drama titled Rashmi Rocket.
